2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the Peter Tosh's historic anthem "Legalize It"

Reggae legend, Peter Tosh, from Jamaica was not only a revolutionary musician but also a passionate advocate for cannabis. Throughout his career, he released a number of influential albums, contributing significantly to the global reggae movement. Notably, his songs often celebrated the use of marijuana as a sacrament and highlighted its role in social justice. Through his powerful lyrics and performances, he emphasized the spiritual and healing properties of marijuana, promoting its use for personal freedom and social justice.

Tosh's iconic song 'Legalize It' became an anthem for the movement, challenging societal norms and fighting against the stigma surrounding cannabis.

Tosh's artistic legacy and activism resonated deeply with fans around the world until his untimely death in 1987. His legacy continues to inspire the dialogue about cannabis culture & legalization, today.

Celebrating Jamaica's Medicinal Cannabis Journey

Honoring the 2015 amendment to the Dangerous Drugs Act, that shaped Jamaica's medicinal cannabis landscape through community and policy, we celebrate the numerous ways in which these changes have not only opened doors for further research and development but can facilitate a greater understanding and acceptance of cannabis as a legitimate therapeutic option. Hence, the collaborative efforts of local stakeholders and policymakers continue to evolve, ensuring that the benefits of this amendment are felt in every community across the nation.

In April 2015, Jamaica's Government revised the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA), leading to the decriminalization of cannabis possession and permitting home cultivation for medical purposes. This amendment encompasses substantial adjustments to the current drug legislation, specifically:

  • the decriminalization of possession of up to two ounces of cannabis with a small fine for unapproved public use; in addition to allowing religious, medical, and scientific applications,

  • permitting the cultivation of as many as five plants classified as medical or therapeutic: and

  • the establishment of a regulated cannabis sector for medical, therapeutic, and scientific uses under the auspices of the Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA).

Protecting & Strengthening our roots
